As Senior Manager, Communications Europe you will be responsible for implementing, adapting and developing compelling and actionable strategies that drive tangible results and deliver critical business priorities for the region and its markets. This highly collaborative position will drive the effectiveness of internal and external communications across the region and play an instrumental role in supporting communications strategies to build, expand and protect the reputation of BIC.
Across both internal and external communications, you will adapt global strategies to local audiences and develops impactful regional plans to drive engagement, provide consistent messaging and win the markets. You will also be responsible for building unique external and internal communications strategies that boost the reputation and perception of the brand in the region. As regional communications, you will also be responsible for communications initiatives of BIC factories located in the region, leveraging BIC’s impressive footprint to generate earned media and strengthen BIC’s image and reputation.
Your will work closely with internal stakeholders and executives in the region and provides support and coaching for internal events and media requests. You will also counsel marketing teams on PR strategies and review and approve all PR plans and materials. In addition, you will provide direction for corporate sponsorship activities, donations, and sponsorship requests, and will be responsible for crisis communications plans and response in the regions as needed to protect the reputation of the company.
Main responsibilities include:
Internal Communications
- Adapts and executes the global internal communications strategy to proactively align team members around BIC’s vision, mission, and business priorities in support of the business growth plan for the region
- Owns the design and execution of this strategy – including compelling content development – across all internal communications channels for the region
- Maintains regional content on our employee app, ensuring continuous adoption and use including in European factories
- Tracks and measures progress in employee engagement with content / executions against tangible KPIs. Develop plans to ensure ongoing content and channel optimization
- Contributes to the global communications approach to key focus areas of the company, including Innovation, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, as well as Sustainable Development by ensuring these reflect the specific needs of the Partners with the Senior Manager of Internal Communications, HR team and local Management teams to implement major internal initiatives and engagement activities in the region such as town hall meetings, internal announcements, department reorganization communications, and other sensitive topics
- Supports in drafting speeches and video content for internal announcements and events
- Translates global communications materials into local languages as needed
External Communications
- Reviews marketing content to assess alignment with BIC values and minimize and prepare for potential risks to the corporate reputation. Includes marketing social media content, ads, and website content, lighter sleeve designs, etc.
- Advises senior management about regional or country-specific reputational risks and opportunities
- Works in partnership with other regional Communications Managers, Investor Relations, Marketing, Legal, Sustainability, Human Resources, and other internal departments to ensure consistent and strategic messaging and branding in Europe
- Provides global social media teams with regional content that will drive recruitment and engagement, showcasing regional/local priorities and achievements
- Manages public relations and earned media opportunities for all markets within the region:
- Responsible for the strategic planning and execution of PR communications programs to promote BIC, its products and its people, through national, trade and local media and social media in Europe. Aligns local campaigns with global communications strategies while honoring and maintaining the integrity of geographical and cultural nuances
- responds to members of the media in a timely manner; composes press briefings and distributes press releases as needed
- Develops and maintains positive professional relationships with various members of the media
- Sets ambitious KPIs and builds reporting for earned media activities across the region
- Manages local PR agency and other external vendors
Global corporate communications support (external):
- Acts as the point of contact for crisis impacting markets within the region, liaising with top management at global and local level depending on scope of the crisis
- Provides training for crisis communications to regional/local management
- Supports with executive visibility and assists executive leadership in developing presentations, speeches, FAQs, and other important corporate messages
- Supports with needs related to events organized at corporate level in France/Europe (AGM, investor days) and financial communications when needed
- Provides direction for corporate sponsorship activities, donations, and sponsorship requests.
Qualifications:
- 8-10 years of experience in internal and external communications in an international business environment, preferably in the consumer-packaged goods industry
- Experience working in a fast-paced environment within a heavily matrixed organization
- Strong writer, editor and presenter in French and English
- Skilled in content & channel strategy development, as well as content creation / execution across internal and external channels
- Experienced in developing content, including graphics, fact sheets, ads, videos, and photos for use in internal and external digital and social channels
- Extensive experience in public relations, media, employee communications and advising executives in communications and reputation management
- Proven track record in leading national, regional and international strategy, brand building, developing cutting-edge communication campaigns and the planning and execution of successful thought leadership programs
- Demonstrated elevated levels of business acumen, critical thinking, creativity, and effectiveness, delivering measurable outcomes with a relentless drive towards excellence
- A thought partner to senior business executives, skillfully managing and supporting their communications needs
- A whole-brain thinker and excellent writer/communicator, able to uncover insights and translate complex business strategies into simple, yet compelling narratives and executions
- An inspiring team player, able to mobilize and / or support cross functional people and teams toward a common vision
- On top of the latest trends and technologies, knowing how to translate ideas into action across channels, content, measurement, and events
- Able to work with cross-functional teams and executives and manage external consultants and contractors
