You main missions will be following:
- Create, revise, and manage various plant-specific safety compliance, behavior-based safety (BBS), and safety improvement programs to protect workers, prevent injuries, ensure site compliance, and reduce workers’ compensation costs. Programs include Lockout Tagout, Hazard Communication, Contractor Management, Confined Spaces, Fire Safety Systems, Machine Safety, Emergency Planning and Procedures, PPE selection, among others
- Conduct, lead, and document periodic in-house and cross site audits and job hazard analysis
- Develop and steer the employee-run Behavior Based Safety observation teams
- Coordinate, create, maintain and conduct various on-site safety training
- Track, investigate, and communicate site incidents and injuries
- Manage plant-specific environmental regulatory compliance and continuous improvement programs for air, water, waste, hazardous chemicals, and DOT security, including routine oversight and coaching of staff and internal auditing and updating of program elements
- Manage hazardous waste program, including profiling wastes, managing inspections, maintaining records, conducting training, conducting inspections, auditing and reporting
- Improve and maintain plant-specific EHS management systems for pollution prevention and risk prevention
- Collect, analyze, track and report EHS performance KPIs in support of Group sustainable development initiatives. Audit results, identify opportunities, and implement appropriate improvement plans
- Monitor and respond to the sustainability and regulatory needs and interests of the BIC business teams
- Evaluate and respond to customer inquiries, requests, and programs regarding sustainability associated with BIC products, manufacturing, and operations
- Answer survey questions, participate in supplier assessment programs, and participate in audits to demonstrate compliance with Company and customer standards for sustainability with focused attention on timely, complete, and appropriate responses to customer-driven requests and programs.
What you'll bring to BIC:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, sciences, engineering, sustainable development or other technical background.
- 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience in manufacturing / warehousing / EHS consulting / government regulatory agencies
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including formal and informal presentation skills/public speaking, the ability to engage persons at all levels of the business, and an ability to coach and influence persons without exerting direct authority.
- Comfort working with persons of diverse cultures, geographies, and time zones.
- Strong leadership skills and a willingness to lead by example.
- Customer service, technical, and legal mindset.
- Ability to develop thorough knowledge of BIC's global organizational structure, factory/site activities, and initiatives related to EHS, social responsibility, and packaging.
Technical Skills
Required:
- Knowledge and competencies in injury prevention, behavior-based safety, incident investigation and hazard analysis.
- OSHA 30 training or willingness to obtain it.
- Current knowledge of USA EPA Regulations (air, water, waste, right-to-know) anad US OSHA standards.
- Hazardous waste management training and knowledge.
- Microsoft O365 suite, including intermediate Excel skills (ability to set up, link and follow a spreadsheet, perform basic calculations and analysis), Teams and SharePoint.
- Ability to learn and navigate a number of customer provided web-based interfaces.
Beneficial to have:
- Current US DOT knowledge and certification
- Advanced PowerPoint and video making skills
- Ability to analyze data trends through time, including pareto analysis and statistical analysis.
- Competencies in the sciences, math and manufacturing.
