The Smart Manufacturing Engineer plays a pivotal role in the design, deployment and evolution of digital solutions across BIC’s manufacturing network. Combining deep operational understanding with functional & technical capabilities, the role will support in enabling plants to adopt smart technologies, unlock data insights and continuously improve our digital solutions.

 

As part of the Smart Manufacturing team, the position ensures successful MES rollout and stability at the BIC sites and owns the cross-plant coordination of the MACH2 platform globally. The role includes hands-on technical work, central MES support and MACH2 development, deployment and version control. Based in LAM, this position will also assure a region support for the central Smart Operations team in LAM and NAM. Over time, the role will expand to support the broader Smart Operations roadmap, including additional systems.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • LAM/NAM MES Deployment & Support:
    • Support and lead MES rollout activities in LAM/NAM sites in coordination with plant teams and central Smart Manufacturing
    • Map and analyze plant manufacturing processes and define how they are reflected in MES.
    • Troubleshoot high level MES issues and liaise with PLEX technical teams if required (through cases creation)
    • Support testing and deployment of new MES modules and local adaptation
    • Document workflows, tools, and training materials for knowledge sharing.
    • Coach and onboard local MES champions.
  • MACH2 Global Platform Ownership
    • Primary point of contact for Mach2 across all BIC sites globally
    • Own platform management: versioning, template development, upgrades and cross-site testing
    • Coordinate with MACH2 plant champions globally to deploy, maintain, and improve MACH2 applications
    • Develop and adapt MACH2 templates to meet business needs
    • Maintain and update MACH2 platform documentation and best practices.
  • Plant Data & Analytics Standardization
    • Support the definition and governance of the shop-floor data collection architecture
    • Contribute to the standardization of core KPI definition to ensure consistency across plants
    • Help define the plant dashboard framework
    • Support development and rollout of pilot dashboards globally
    • Work with central Data & Analytics teams and local IT teams to align plant data models
  • Support of Smart Operations Roadmap
    • Act as liaison between LAM/NAM plants and central Smart Manufacturing. Identify local constraints and priorities, support adherence to global standards.
    • Support the wider digital manufacturing community and knowledge-sharing efforts.
    • Support small-scale automation tools on PLEX APIs.

Support the deployment, core model definition and continuous improvement of additional systems.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Automation or related field

Related Experience:

2-4 years of experience in manufacturing systems, MES or OT environments

Hands-on experience with PLEX MES – configuration, deployment

Understanding of shop-floor data flows: PLC connectivity, machine data collection and IIoT fundamentals.

Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, PLC connectivity, machine data collection and IIoT basics

Clear communicator – able to engage plant teams and IT stakeholders

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and strategically.

Experience working across multiple plants or business units is an advantage

 

Special Training or Competence:

Familiarity with industrial control systems (PLCs, SCADA) and IIoT architectures

Basic understanding of IT/OT integration concepts, systems connectivity, and data flows

Comfort working with operational data

Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities, with the capacity to collaborate effectively across teams.

Demonstrated ability to think strategically, identify opportunities, and propose innovative IT solutions.
