Celebrating Black History Month with BLISS
Black History Month, observed in February in the U.S., honors the contributions and achievements Black Americans have made and continue to make. Originating in 1926 and founded by Carter G. Woodson, the month recognizes the rich history and cultural heritage of Black individuals, celebrating these contributions, and providing time for people to come together, reflect and educate.
As we celebrate Black History Month at BIC, we are reminded of our commitment to fostering an inclusive environment where Black employees and allies can come together, connect, and thrive authentically. Black Leaders Influencing Sustainable Success at BIC (BLISS) is one of our six employee-led resource groups empowering and amplifying the unique voices, cultures, and experiences of our team members.
Below, some of the BLISS leaders share their insight into the importance of creating inclusive spaces at work and how diversity, equity, and inclusion at work can continue to push our team members and our business forward.
Euston Lewis Jr., Senior Capacity Planner & BLISS Co-Chair, Charlotte, North Carolina
“Black History Month is a time to spotlight the accomplishments of those from the past and celebrate the contributors of today who are helping to shape a better future. Our work as a part of BLISS is helping to foster a more inclusive environment here at BIC and promotes understanding, support and inclusion. All team members are able to be a part of the broader vision of acceptance – breaking down walls and biases to create a stronger, more agile team.”
Miranda Stewart, Customer Service Representative, Shelton, Connecticut
“By becoming involved with BLISS, I have had access to a strong network of mentors from across North America, allowing for me to learn from others, share my experiences and come to work as my authentic self. Through the work of our employee resource groups, our organization welcomes fresh ideas, supports collaborative relationships and encourages us to form deeper connections with each other.”
Erika Williams, Traffic Administrator, BLISS Secretary
“Black History is Our History. The contributions of all is a yearlong recognition, however Black History Month is a time to acknowledge individuals in my community for the work that is done every day.”
At BIC, we understand that working together as a team means recognizing and celebrating the unique perspectives and experiences of every individual. Discover what it means to be a part of our global community here: careers.bic.com.
