Supporting the Fight: Breast Cancer Awareness Month at BIC
At BIC, we believe in the power of community and the strength we gain when we stand together. Throughout October, BIC teams across the globe came together to raise awareness and show solidarity in the fight against breast cancer.
From educational events to fundraisers and team challenges, we were united by one common goal: supporting those impacted by breast cancer. Throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our team members joined forces to educate and show support, reinforcing our commitment to creating a workplace that prioritizes health, wellness, and inclusivity.
Global Initiatives: From Awareness to Action
Across our global offices, team members took part in a variety of events designed to both educate and inspire action. Here’s a snapshot of how BIC team members stepped up to support the cause:
Shelton, US: Team members in Shelton showed their support with a creative “Pink Pumpkin Painting” activity. To further encourage awareness, a virtual discussion with a healthcare professional was offered, giving team members an opportunity to get informed and prioritize their health.
We caught up with Katie Wargo, Co-Chair of BIC’s employee resource group Women Empowerment at BIC (WEB), who shared:
"As someone whose family has been affected by Breast Cancer over many generations, creating a space to reflect and talk about the strength it takes to get through a battle, diagnosis and prevention is just as important as educating. I'm so glad we were able to create this conversation at BIC in a comfortable environment,” said Katie.
São Paulo, Brazil: In Brazil, the focus was on providing critical information to all team members. Throughout October, the team launched a special communications campaign centered around breast cancer prevention and awareness, sharing essential tips and resources to help team members stay informed and feel empowered.
Paris, France: In Paris, BIC launched a special 4Color series in support of breast cancer awareness, with all proceeds from October sales going to the Gustave Roussy Institute, a leading cancer research center. After October, BIC will continue donating 1€ for every five boxes sold. Team members also gathered for a breakfast event with the institute’s philanthropy director to discuss the latest in cancer research, as well as raising awareness for November and men's health.
Mexico City and Saltillo, Mexico: Teams in Mexico City gathered for an educational discussion on breast cancer awareness and prevention. To conclude the discussion, which was led by a medical geneticist currently fighting the disease, team members received a ‘pink kit’ to reinforce awareness. Team members in Saltillo also showed support by joining together to volunteer in a local race, the ‘Poderosa 5K’ (Powerful 5K), an initiative held in support of women’s health and the fight against breast cancer.
Nancy Duran, Talent Acquisition Coordinator, who participated in the 5K shares,
"Participating in the race was a reminder of what we can achieve when we come together for an important cause. Being alongside many committed people inspired me to continue raising awareness and supporting brave women and families, like mine, who are fighting against breast cancer. Together, we can make a difference and keep moving forward with strength and hope. I’m proud of our OneBIC team for raising awareness and inspiring others to create a healthier and more colorful world."
Moving Forward, Together
While October serves as a focal point for breast cancer awareness, our dedication to supporting team members' health and well-being is year-round. We are proud to foster a culture that promotes education, support, and action—ensuring that everyone at BIC feels empowered to take charge of their health.
