Tips for Prioritizing Mental Health and Well-being: Insights from BIC's SWIM ERG

Looking to discover a workplace where advancing your career doesn’t mean sparing your personal health and well-being? Welcome to BIC! We understand that to create business success we need to foster a culture where every team member can thrive both personally and professionally.

As Mental Health Awareness Month is celebrated during May in the United States, we spoke with members of Supporting Wellness and Mental Health (SWIM), one of six employee-led resource groups at BIC, to discover their advice for making mental health and well-being a priority in this fast-paced world:

Monique Beecher, Amazon National Account Manager, SWIM Co-Chair ⚖️

“I prioritize my mental health by protecting my peace which means caring for and safeguarding my physical, mental, emotional and spiritual self in ways that I define for myself. Protecting my peace is a personal journey where ultimately, I make the decisions and set boundaries for myself that I determine are in my best interest.”

Christa Kelly, Customer Service, SWIM Secretary 🍃

“Perform small, relaxing tasks that take your mind off bigger issues, utilize the quiet, prioritize yourself, avoid hasty judgments of emotions and sensations. Focus on the positive and recognize that negative situations are temporary.”

Erika Marko, Ecommerce Business Analyst, SWIM Treasurer 🫂

“I take time to practice self-compassion and understanding. I remind myself that not every day will be the best day, but doing one little thing like going outside or calling a friend can transform what could have been a bad day.”

Mitch Kluver, E-Commerce Manger – Direct to Consumer & Marketplaces, SWIM Events Coordinator 📱

“I prioritize my mental health by practicing mindfulness with the help of meditation apps. I like to begin each day by grounding myself in gratitude.”

Adriana Pascarella, Senior Manager – Human Resources Business Partner NAM Commercial, SWIM Co-Chair 🌄

“I prioritize my mental health by taking little moments throughout my busy schedule to practice mindfulness activities, such as meditation, deep breathing, outdoor walks, journaling, and even reading ‘nice news’ in the morning to begin the day off on a positive note.”

From practicing mindfulness and setting boundaries to spending time to yourself or with family and friends, these are just some of the ways you can prioritize yourself and your mental health. Here at BIC, with the help of programs like SWIM, we’re creating a culture where well-being is valued, supported, and celebrated!
