JOB SUMMARY
The Safety Support Specialist develops and delivers comprehensive training to forklift operators, ensuring their understanding of safe practices, regulations, and equipment handling. Duties include developing and updating training materials, administering assessments and certifications, providing personalized feedback and coaching to enhance operators' skills, maintaining records, administering and managing safety programs, conducting accident investigations, identifying hazards, and analyzing data for continuous improvement efforts.
MAIN RESPONSBILITIES
- Develop and deliver classroom learning with testing and incorporate site-specific hazards and rules. Deliver hands-on training emphasizing safe practices and equipment handling.
- Develop and manage train-the-trainer program. Assess operator competency, certify operators, and maintain certification records for regulatory compliance.
- Document forklift incidents, near misses, trends, and patterns. Investigate incidents, determine near and root causes, and develop and manage action plans.
- Create and administer forklift behavior observation program, analyze data to identify gaps and improvement opportunities, including coaching and training of DC supervisors to recognize at-risk behaviors and coach operators.
- Create and distribute daily safety huddles, safety talk standdowns, and best practices tailored to site-specific needs informed by trends, patterns, and near misses.
- Conduct on-boarding safety training and establish relationships with new team members. Improve and conduct monthly general safety training of Charlotte teams.
- Co-manage BBS safety process, recruit and train BBS team members, and coach and monitor BBS team members. Analyze Data. Report to site management. Develop and manage action/improvement plans.
- Manage fire safety system inspections, maintenance and repairs.
- Manage Lockout Tagout process through alliance with maintenance team, ensure written procedures are updated, annual audits complete.
- Manage contractor safety program through alliance with supervisors and maintenance teams, ensure completion and documentation of written pre-qualifications and on-site safety reviews/checklists.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Forklift Operator Certification: Prior certification demonstrating proficiency in operating forklifts and understanding safety protocols.
- In-depth Knowledge of Forklift Operations: A comprehensive understanding of forklift operations, including equipment types, controls, maneuvering techniques, load handling principles, and safety procedures.
- Training and Instructional Skills: Proficiency in training delivery techniques, instructional methods to actively engage learners, and facilitate skill development during training sessions.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to clearly explain concepts, provide instructions, deliver presentations, and communicate safety guidelines to trainees in a clear and understandable manner.
- Problem-solving Abilities: The ability to identify training needs, analyze issues, diagnose hazards, and develop solutions to address challenges or gaps.
- Attention to Safety: Strong commitment to safety and a thorough understanding of safety regulations, procedures, and best practices.
- Organizational and Administrative Skills: Organizational skills necessary for managing training schedules, maintaining training records, preparing training materials, and coordinating with management.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, best practices in training methodologies, and advancements in forklift technology, maintaining expertise and delivering high-quality training programs.
