JOB SUMMARY
The Logistics Manager Southern and Central Africa is responsible for driving the logistics operations to deliver high customer service while ensuring cost effectiveness and optimizing resources to deliver product to customers. The person is responsible for designing and deploying the Logistics strategy in the cluster, providing leadership and strategic guidance to the local team and relevant stakeholders with the objective to ensure the strategy execution in the day-to day operations. The regional Logistics Manager is leading the local team ensuring their development, engagement and capability improvement.
The role is responsible for the operations in Southern and Central Africa, which includes Domestic Subsidiary and sales in South Africa, and Export Sales to 9 markets: Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles through 16 distributors.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS
Logistics Management
- Manage logistics operations in the cluster (In house and or 3PL): Freight, storage, handling, co-packing, picking, invoicing outbound and Export functions.
- Leading Co-Packing management and maintenance of machines to ensure smooth operations with the aim of limiting machine breakdowns and costly repairs.
- Manage, review the local 3PL service providers performance on monthly basis.
- Responsible for setting-up and monitoring 3PL Logistics service level agreement framework.
- Manage logistics performance dashboard. (OTIF / NETT Cuts / FRDC cost).
- Ensure monthly performance communication to the main business stakeholders.
- Review/ Negotiate the 3PLs contracts as per the renewal timeline.
- Lead the Warehouse/Logistics 3PL tender on regular basis (3 Years/ 5 Years).
- Ensure compliance of the warehousing and distribution facilities in relation to health and safety aspects relating to local legislation as well as BIC global standards. (In house and or 3PL).
- Continuously evaluate local logistics network in search for improvements and efficiencies, considering the business priorities.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives/projects with the objective of streamlining the process and driving efficiency.
- Continuously reviewing, updating and documenting logistics processes & SOPs.
- Responsible to provide input related to Customer Excellence workstream as well as the assumptions, risks and opportunities used to generate the OP numbers
- KPI’s: FRDC Cost absolute value and % of NETT Sales / Stock accuracy, Warehouse utilization, Co-packing performance, Documentation accuracy.
Customer Service:
- Manage end to end customer relation management workflow, ensuring we constantly deliver excellence to customers (Internal and external customers).
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and projects related to customer service area (Internal and external customers)
- Define and implement tools and systems to execute operations, measure and communicate performance on regular basis. (OTIF /NETT Cuts / Picking performance / Delivery lead times).
- Ensure regular communication with customers and the Commercial team on the progress of orders management and invoicing.
- Responsible for customer engagement projects with commercial team / Distributors.
- Monitor customer satisfaction reporting and lead improvement initiative.
- Along with regional CE manager CS manager and local management, to lead distributors capability development programs.
- KPI’s: OTIF, NETT Cuts, Lost Sales, Back orders, Returns rate (for domestic customers)
Inventory & Slob Management
- Drive Initiatives to monitor and improve stock level while securing the right availability in the market in conjunction with CE and E2E Planning teams.
- Manage monthly feedback to E2E planning on inventory and SLOB.
- Drive monthly actions with E2E planning CE and Commercial team to reduce SLOBS and deliver to the cluster target.
- KPI’s: Inventory value, Inventory cover, Slob value, Slob percentage versus NS.
People Management
- Managing a team of 22 people (6 direct reports)
- Provide technical functional leadership to the local team to deliver superior customer service and optimize costs.
- Define and maintain team structure, roles and responsibilities. Analyze long term capacity of Supply & Deliver teams and plan accordingly.
- Responsible for engagement, development and growth of the local Supply & Deliver team.
- KPI’s: Engagement Survey results and actions to follow.
Cost Management
- Manage the CE cost for the cluster: Freight, Distribution and Labor cost.
- Monitor and report monthly the FRDC performance as well as the outlook for 12 MNTHS rolling.
- Own the cluster program to continuously drive cost performance through projects and initiatives.
- Ensure quality input to the OP exercise on an annual basis.
- KPI’s: FRDC cost: Freight out cost, Distribution cost, Labor and Overhead costs Co-Packing Cost, Machinery Repair and Maintenance cost at Co-Packer
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics / Supply chain field or similar tertiary qualification essential.
- 5-7 years Supply Chain experience within a FMCG manufacturing or related environment is essential and experience within the stationary business is advantageous.
- SHEQ or relevant Health and Safety training required.
- JDE or similar enterprise software experience required.
- Warehouse Management software experience required.
- Must have knowledge of Supply Chain Operations.
- Must have knowledge of Co-Packing Operations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
- Must have strong time management and prioritization skills.
